He joined Devon 50 in 1997, and attended summer camp where he earned Tenderfoot and 2nd Class; and First Class shortly thereafter. He was in the Eagle Patrol with his brother Scott until he was moved to the Hawk Patrol in 1999. The following year, Ryan took over as PL for Hawk Patrol. For his Eagle Scout Project, Ryan and his team of scouts renovated a garage at one of the homes belonging to the Pennsylvania Home of the Sparrow, building a flight of stairs and providing them with much more storage space.
Ryan currently lives in Berwyn with his parents. His older sister, Laura, is an art teacher in a school district near Syracuse University. His brother Scott, D-50 Eagle Scout #244, is studying computer engineering at the University of Michigan.
