Nicholas Ryan Purdy  - #251

Nick was born on September 16, 1988 in Bryn Mawr Hospital. He started school in Blue Bell, but moved into T-E District by first grade. He joined Cub Scout Pack 81, enjoying camping, earning his activity pins, rank, Arrow of Light, and making new friends - that he has been close to ever since.  In April, 2000, he was convinced by one of his Cub friends, Darren Scott, to join Devon 50. He made 1st Class the following February, and was accepted as a Den Chief by Christine Sommer in Pack 111. Under her guidance, he led her patrol until February, 2003, earning the Den Chief Service Award.

In the spring of 2001, he became APL for Fox Patrol, and camp Patrol Leader at Horseshoe. After camp, Nick attended the National Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia; joining 37,000 other scouts from across the nation. In the fall, he made Star rank, and was “tapped” out for Order of the Arrow at the annual Banquet in February.

In the spring of 2002, he completed his Ordeal for the Order of the Arrow, made Life Rank and was appointed Fox Patrol Leader. Also in the summer of 2002, Nick was selected for the People to People Ambassador program – taking him to Holland and Germany for ten days of international soccer competition. Nick has been on several travel soccer teams, including this past year with the undefeated Greater Chester Valley, and on the undefeated Conestoga JV team. While at V.F.M.S. he also played soccer, basketball and ran anchor in track, and participating in the prestigious Penn Relays.

Nick has been a part of the CORE program at V.F.M.S., and was named student of the month in September, 2002. He is currently in the honors program for Science, Math and History at Conestoga. He has won several Scouting awards, including Future Scout Leader in both 2002 and 2003, and Outstanding Patrol Leader, 2003. Nick’s Eagle project in April was at the Home of the Sparrow, building a laundry room with family storage cubicles and other facilities. He presently holds the position of Troop Patrol Guide/Advisor. He completed his Eagle Board of Review on October 29, 2003. In his spare time, Nick enjoys the guitar, skiing, golf, hunting and fishing.
