Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #245
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened
by J.B. Rettew, Devon 50 Trustee
Jeffrey A. Colquitt
Eagle Scout, Devon # 245
Jeff Colquitt was born October 20, 1986, in Chicago, Ill. In 1990 he moved to Berwyn, PA with his mother, Joan, and sister, Kristen. He attended New Eagle Elementary School and Valley Forge Middle School. Jeff is currently at the end of his Freshman year at Conestoga High School, where he is an honor student and plays the drums in the band.
Jeff crossed over from Pack 111 to Devon 50 in February 1998 after earning the Arrow of Light. He attended his first week at Horseshoe during that summer. That Fall found him learning the scouting fundamentals under the Fox Patrol Leader, Brian Chu and Scoutmaster Buzz Davis. He continued scouting activities the next year with Mr. Haerland as Scoutmaster and Jonathan Bauer as Patrol Leader; Jeff also experienced his first leadership role as Asst. Den Leader to a Wolf pack of 21 scouts. In his third year with Devon 50, Jeff served his patrol as APL with Nelson Scott as Patrol Leader; he also continued another year with his Webelos pack as their asst. Den Leader, becoming den Chief in 2001. It was a very special event in February, 2002, when Jeff handed Devon 50 scarves to his Webelos scouts as they crossed over to Devon 50.
This past year Jeff had a lot of fun as Patrol Leader of the Fox Patrol, introducing the new scouts to the traditions of Devon 50, under the auspices of scoutmaster Rich Scott. Jeff has participated in many of the Devon 50 trips; his most memorable are the skiing, caving and whitewater rafting trips. He also took part in the National Jamboree at A.P. Hill the summer of 2001. As Patrol Leader, Jeff received the Crawford Cup for the highest score in competition with other troops in District and Council events, the Ellson-Whyte Acvancement trophy for the Patrol with Best Advancement record, the J Barton Rettew Jr. Plaque for the scout with the best advancement record and the JB Rettew III Trophy for Outstanding Patrol Leader.
Jeff’s Eagle Project was clearing a 4600 sq. ft. area of wild brush and undergrowth, next to a meditation garden at Church of the Savior. Jeff is grateful to all who helped, and to his former Webelos scouts who were there every day with him. Thank you.
Jeff also earned the Edward H. Richardson Memorial Award, the Thousand Dollar Club for Wreath Sales in 2001, and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.
Jeff would like to acknowledge, with thanks, the tremendous help he has received throughout the past four years from Mr. Gerry Cavanaugh, all the Assistant Scoutmasters, the Merit Badge counselors, and those scoutmasters already mentioned. He would like to remain an active leader in the troop until he is 18.
Jeff plans to go to college after his graduation; course of study will probably be some aspect of computers.
