Kevin M. Coffey
Devon 50 Eagle Scout #237
Kevin Michael Coffey was born in Tucson, Arizona, on April 21, 1982. In 1985 his father Michael, mother Jane, six year-old brother Jeff, and eight year-old sister Laura moved to Paoli, Pennsylvania.
When he was eight, Kevin was briefly involved with the Cub Scouts. In the fall of 1993, Kevin was urged to look at what Devon 50 had to offer. When he did, he enthusiastically became involved and became a Boy Scout in December of that year in the Eagle Patrol under the leadership of Colin Ferriman and Sean McConnell. Kevin enjoyed many of the trips that Devon 50 had to offer, including canoeing, skiing, camping, and the annual trip to Gettysburg. Kevin also enjoyed the high adventure trip to Philmont that he took in the summer of 1999 with his friends Tom, Trevor, and Mr. Jonak, where they spent 11 days roughing it in the wilderness and learning quite a bit about working with others.
Kevin received the Best Advancement Record in 1995 for the '94-'95 Scouting year. He served as assistant patrol leader for Eagle Patrol from 1996-to 1997. In February 1997, he was elected to the Order of the Arrow. He then served as patrol leader of Eagle Patrol from 1997-1998 and Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 50 from June 1999 until April of 2000. As Patrol Leader, he received the J.B. Rettew III Award, the Lenker Flood Plaque, the Crawford Cup, and the Field Day award for Eagle Patrol. Kevin was named Scout of the Year for 1998, received the Brotherhood ranking of OA in September 1998, and the Silver Buckle last year at Camp Horseshoe. In 1999, he received the William E. Sellers Award. For his Eagle project, Kevin deactivated a section of a trail in Valley Forge National Park, which prevented further ecological damage.
Along with Scouting, Kevin is involved in many activities at Conestoga High School, including marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, chess club, Peer Helpers, Film Appreciation Society, and television production. He was chosen Pioneer of the Month in February of this year. Kevin will be attending Presbyterian College in South Carolina in the fall with a major in communications and furthering his talents in video production.
